Knowledge is a light but to talk in terms of power is deception as power is a mirage and a tool to benefit some.

Knowledge is emancipation from greed, lust, ignorance, hatred, violence, destruction of environment. The knowledge looses its sense when its use is for power accumulation.

Then in words of Gandhi... science is a sharp razor in hands of a baby.

The present violence and destruction of humanity in Twin Towers and in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kashmir and Palestine is testimony to that fact.

Religion.

Religious ideas can be a whole identity for Zionists, extremists, fundamentalists and rabid mullahs, Hindu sevaks........... but the process of civilization is beyond parts. It is a complete whole and for Muslims , the phases of historical prominence and submission are varied.
Mere number of scientists can not show the level of civilization or can show the depths of malaise.
Every civilization has its own metamorphosis and for Muslims the comparison with any other but except itself is a meaningless and absurd reality.
